Gary started playing squash at the age of four and accompanied his father to the squash club whenever he played squash. At the age of ten he qualified for the Natal U14 team, three years later he made the South African U14 team and was named captain.
He started coaching at 14 and at sixteen received his Level I coaching certificate. He assisted his Michael House’s 1st team where he was a border and after leaving school worked at a squash centre in Durban where his duties included coaching, junior clinics, ladies mornings and the promotion of squash in the club. In 1993 he reached the semi-finals of the South African Closed and was ranked in the top eight in South Africa.
In 1994 he qualified as a Level II squash coach and referee, where after he moved to Germany where he worked for 4 years coaching and playing. From Germany he moved to Bermuda and became their “Squash Professional”. He was involved in all aspects of coaching, restringing of rackets and general running of the club. Over 200 children were involved in the Junior Squash Program and the club had over 400 members.
After 4 years in Bermuda Gary moved back to South Africa where he continues coaching and playing squash. His love for the game is evident in his coaching ae nd he is always ready for tthe challenge of helping teams and individuals succeed in all events. He currently coaches at Kingsmead Girls College, St. Johns College and Parkview SC.
